About this Entry
Future Proofing
>
This home was designed and built to last 100 years just like the villas which we see today around New Zealand. It is built with solid cedar cladding which if it is well maintained will stand to the test of time which is proven with all the building you see today.
Liveability
>
This home is not on the bigger side of "tiny houses" as it was designed to be under 3.5ton and be fully road legal. With that being said, the home was designed to have normal size living comforts in it. From a full size bathroom, queen bed and a decent size kitchen. It also has very good ventilation with all window able to open and extractor fans in the bathroom and kitchen. It is fully insulated, double glazed and has a sustainable heating source. Which makes this home very liveable all year round.
Workmanship
>
Besides for the steel frame which was used for weight purposes, this house was build from timber. From the recycled totara flooring, to the custom totara kitchen and benches, to the cedar ceiling and totara beams. The workmanship had to be top notch to achieve a height standard finish as alot of it is raw timber. So there is no hiding mistake with paint and filler.
Functionality/Innovation Design
>
I had a couple of must haves when I designed this home. Which were, bathroom away from the kitchen, standing room near the bed and storage anywhere possible. Other then that. My rectangle trailer governed my floor plan, not just for locational parameters but weight too.
Aesthetic Appeal & Special Features
>
Timber timber timber. When I designed this, I wanted this to feel as homely and cozy as I could. And to me natural products is one of those ways.
