About this Entry
Future Proofing
>
This fully self-contained single-bedroom home has been designed with adaptability and sustainability in mind. To demonstrate how additional living space can be seamlessly incorporated, we have positioned a generous porch alongside the house. This porch can be fully enclosed with large sliding glass doors, instantly transforming it into a weather-protected lounge or dining area—future-proofing the home by allowing it to expand as the owners’ needs evolve.
Durability and low maintenance are central to the material choices. The home is clad in beautiful cedar, pre-treated with two coats of tinted oil, which reduces the frequency of re-oiling and extends the life of the timber. The rear elevation is finished in robust Coloursteel, providing long-term weather resistance with minimal upkeep. These materials were chosen not only for their aesthetic appeal but also for their longevity, reducing replacement cycles and associated environmental impact.
Together, the adaptable design and carefully considered finishes ensure this home will remain functional, economical, and environmentally responsible for years to come—offering both immediate comfort and sustainable, low-cost living into the future.
Liveability
>
This home has been designed with long-term comfort, security, and peace of mind at its heart. At 9 metres long it offers the perfect balance of independence and ease of care for a single person, while the addition of the spacious porch makes it equally welcoming for a couple.
The single-level layout supports ageing in place, removing the challenges of stairs and ensuring all cupboards and wardrobes are within easy reach. Ample storage allows two people to live comfortably without compromise, while the second toilet off the porch offers extra convenience and privacy for both residents and guests.
Inside, the lounge provides a cosy retreat with a built-in TV unit, and the generous shower adds everyday luxury. The porch itself has been future-proofed — it can be enclosed to create additional living space or adapted to suit changing needs over time, ensuring the home grows with its occupants.
Built with durable, low-maintenance materials such as cedar and Coloursteel, the home is not only practical and beautiful but also designed to reduce ongoing upkeep and costs.
In summary, this home offers more than just efficient design. It provides a safe, sustainable, and adaptable sanctuary — a place where people can truly feel at home for many years to come.
Workmanship
>
The quality of workmanship in this build is evident in every detail. From the precision of the joinery to the smooth finish of the timber cladding, the house reflects the care and skill of experienced craftspeople. The cedar cladding has been carefully treated with two coats of tinted oil, ensuring both a beautiful natural finish and long-lasting protection with reduced maintenance.
Close attention has been given to every junction and finish. The transition between the cedar features and the dark Coloursteel cladding is crisp and seamless, showcasing both accuracy and an eye for design. The Ironsand joinery has been installed with precision, aligning perfectly with the bold exterior palette.
Inside, the finish continues to a high standard: cabinetry is built with durable, high-quality materials; the built-in TV unit integrates neatly into the lounge; and all fixtures have been carefully fitted to maximise both function and aesthetic appeal. The bathroom features an oversized shower installed with perfect alignment and finishing, providing both comfort and a premium feel.
Every element of the build demonstrates pride in craftsmanship, from the structural integrity through to the fine details. This is not just a house built to last — it is a home built with care, attention, and respect for quality at every stage.
Functionality/Innovation Design
>
The floorplan of this home has been designed to feel open and effortless, with every element working together to maximise usability. The single-level layout ensures easy movement throughout, while sliding doors from both the lounge and bedroom open directly onto the enclosed porch, seamlessly extending the living space and providing a sheltered indoor–outdoor connection.
In the kitchen, functionality is paired with aesthetics through dark cabinetry that conceals an integrated fridge, creating a sleek, uninterrupted finish. Opposite, a feature wall finished in flexible plaster adds warmth, texture, and durability, giving the interior a refined and contemporary character.
A standout innovation is the beautifully designed utility room on the porch, accessed by a timber barn-style slider. This space contains the second toilet and a compact laundry area, enhancing everyday convenience while keeping the main living areas uncluttered.
Together, these thoughtful details — from integrated appliances to multi-functional spaces — create a home that not only flows well but also feels bigger and more adaptable than its footprint suggests. It is a perfect example of how practicality can be seamlessly blended with touches of luxury, ensuring comfort without compromise.
Aesthetic Appeal & Special Features
>
This home stands out for its striking architectural form and the sense of space it creates. The gable roof with its soaring cathedral ceilings gives the interior an airy, expansive feel that is rare in a tiny home, instantly creating a sense of light and openness.
The living areas are framed with glass, creating a strong connection to the outdoors. Triple sliding doors from the lounge open fully to the porch, while matching double glass doors in the bedroom extend the private retreat into nature. The porch itself is surrounded by sliding glass doors, offering the best of both worlds — an outdoor feel on warm days, and the ability to close it in for a sheltered, cosy living space in cooler weather. This transforms the porch into a truly versatile, year-round extension of the home.
Inside, the carefully chosen colour palette adds to the contemporary sophistication of the build. The dark grey kitchen cabinetry with its integrated fridge blends seamlessly into the space, while the dark feature wall rising into the high-pitched ceiling adds drama and depth. These rich tones are softened by natural light and balanced with warm timber details, creating a space that feels both modern and inviting.
From the cedar and Coloursteel exterior to the refined interior finishes, this home delivers a visual statement that is both elegant and welcoming. It proves that a tiny home can offer not only efficiency but also architectural drama, with design features that inspire pride and provide lasting liveability.
